oh well... gautami of the
rooted fame has hoopla-ed me to write 12 random things about meself that have to do with christmas. I'll copy/paste the rules but i don't by any means intend to stick to them.
The Rules of the Hoopla1. List 12 random things about yourself that have to do with Christmas.2. Please refer to it as ‘hoopla’ and not the dreaded ‘m’-word.3. You have to specifically tag people when you are done. None of this “if you’re reading this, consider yourself tagged” stuff is allowed…then nobody ends up actually doing it. The number of people who you tag is really up to you — but the more, the merrier to get this ‘hoopla’ circulating through the Blog-o-sphere.4. Don't forget to link back to the person who tagged you.5. Please try to do it as quickly as possible. The Christmas season will be over before we know it.- when i was a child christmas was not a holiday in my (then) country
- many people celebrated it nonetheless (catholicism has a very strong influence in these areas) but the rest of us just knew it existed but didn't care about its symbolism or anything
- however, gradmother, and later mother, would make 'potica' for christmas. mother still does
- santa claus only existed in movies
- but we had grandpa cold who brought presents to the good children on new year's eve
- the tree in our family was decorated no sooner than the day before new year's eve
- all the family would partake in decorating the tree
- i have never been to a midnight mass nor do i ever wish to be
- we no longer exchange presents on new year's but now the family gathers on christmas day to do so
- boxing day is officially a state holiday, conpletely unrelated to christmas in my (now) country (i don't want to set ranting about it now)
- as you may have gathered, i don't care all that much about christmas
- but i can't say i don't enjoy sharing in the christmas spirit, whatever that is supposed to be
ok, that's it. all i can think of right now. and since i said i'd break the rules, the buck stops here. christmas is over anyway. i specifically tag nobody (but if someone wishes to do this me... oops, hoopla, you're welcome to do so)
update: kai of kai's poetry responded to this hoopla. thank you, sweetie.
