When I submitted the following haiku, Martin wrote back he loved the phrase but wasn't too keen on the fragment (neither am I, to be honest, and would probably do it differently now). Still, he wanted to accept it for publication in Presence 48.


winter thaw
a bishop missing
from his chess set


rest in peace, Martin, you will be missed...
