Not living in a country with massive alpine regions, snow and avalanches are not part of my seasonal repertoire. I presume spring is actually a time when melting snow precipitates ice slides. But the contrast between the season of new life and growth, and the loss of those houses and associated grief is striking. The language is so "matter of fact" which is also jarring - a little like being hit by an avalanche! It forces us into accepting the forces of nature, and acknowledging that humans are ultimately temporary residents of the mountains. Powerful, as usual, Polona
thank you, as usual, Strider :-) in reality, more damage results from flash floods caused by summer storms and autumn rains than the snow itself although avalanches may close a few roads in winter...
