in the comment thread to the previous post what this bird was. it's a european robin (erithacus rubecula), a songbird quite common throughout europe and the british isles. it is not closely related to its american namesake. i've seen (and heard) these birds before on "the sunny side of the alps" but never before had any of them been willing to pose for me. this fellow was even bold enough to take seed from my palm, something i've only seen great tits do before.

janet: even more curious is that i saw this guy only on that one day and it came without hesitation when i offered it a handful of seeds.
great tits do that all the time but thus far i haven't seen any other bird do it.
